It ended a long time ago, I lost everything. Somehow I’m 21, when this first came out I was 16.. I can’t do this anymore, lost both my parents, dd214, homelessness, no friends or family, I was alone. I have my life, friends became family. I can still find purpose in animals, I have a home. I have SSDI, I have a loving partner. But I can’t forget, all the abandonment, neglect, abuse, addiction, exploitation, alienation, dehumanization, guilt, sorrow… why me? I should have be the one to leave. I had the opportunity and I failed at 18. To this day, despite all the good in my life. I would tell that kid it’s not worth anymore pain, I miss impatient as a kid, everything changed. No one cares about adults, I still wish to not wake up. I’m going to sleep now, goodbye. Thank u for loving me, please understand.

I remember when I was listening to these songs when I was 16 years old in the fourth grade of high school, while doing homework. Now I'm 22 years old and I still like it, I'll finish studying nursing :')

I played this almost every morning when I took a gapyear for my study, and my grandmother would sit beside me listening as well. When I didn't play it once, she'd ask me why and tell me to play it because she enjoyed it as well eventhough she didn't understand the language. She passed away in 2021, and I haven't played this playlist ever since. I come back again today and can't help but reminiscing that little precious moment.

i had a dream where i was playfully playing water with my school friends and had a lot of fun. When i woke up i sensed a nostalgic feel suddenly because i knew that in a few weeks i would graduate and i wanted to study abroad. This music just has this nostalgic feel that i got from that dream. I hope i never break contact with my friends even tough i am slightly introverted and because of them i am now more open and social.

Why does it feel like this could be composed by debussy?

I grew up in the church with my dad being a pastor. This being said, I was not allowed to listen to a lot of different types of music, especially ones that reference the taboo place of "hell". Regardless of this, I was always a rebellious child that often questioned the teachings in church. This made me a bit of an outsider to the world that my family was so heavily involved in. The one thing that kept me going every Sunday was playing drums in our church's band. Years later (2023), I was in a jam session with my fellow musician Matt Lacey when he started playing the chords to "maybe hell is a better place?". We then had a 'freestyle' session, where I made up lyrics on the spot. I immediately sang the line "maybe hell is a better place" and I made him stop playing, saying "that's a song". The idea of hell being a better place than the reality you were currently in, was a funny thought, but very relatable at the same time. The thought of everything being worse that your current situation is often something that we battle with. This song serves as a reminder to fight another day. Life is worth living, so don't waste all of your pride in one place. - Micah Emrich

This is the title track off my debut album, Friends First which will be released March 22nd, 2024. I wrote this song in Puerto Escondido, Mexico in a very reverby room on the beach. I had just moved into a hotel-like apartment and used a Kaotica Eyeball on the mic to stop all the sound from bleeding. This is the first song I'm releasing that I fully wrote and produced myself. It came together in a few days, weeks after I had met her. However its come to mean so much more than just this relationship, I wrote the song as well only a few weeks after my dad had passed away. Every time I come back to listen, my heart is pulled toward memories of him as well, as the lyrics say in the end, "Before that end comes and you damaged, Breathe me in" which I feel is more an homage to him then the relationship. - Julian Roy
